    Carrageen: Carrageen is een gecompliceerd mengsel van polysachariden. Het is een natuurlijk product en wordt gewonnen uit bepaalde soorten zeewier afkomstig uit Europa, Amerika en Azië. Carrageen wordt toegepast in zeer veel voedingsmiddelen als verdikkingsmiddel en stabilisator. Carrageen moet als ingrediënt gedeclareerd worden met E-nummer 407 of 407a. Een bekende toepassing is bijvoorbeeld chocolademelk. Gebruik van hoge concentraties carrageen kan leiden tot flatulentie.

    Carboxymethylcellulose: Carboxymethylcellulose -CMC- is een derivaat van cellulose met azijnzuur -de carboxymethylgroep: CH2COOH-.
